The British Horse Society Assessments

The British Horse Society assessments are internationally recognised vocational qualifications which explore candidates’ equitation, coaching and stable management skills.

BHSQ awards qualifications for The British Horse Society at the following levels. Please click on the qualification title for further information.

BHSQ Level 1 (Stage 1) qualifications

A person with a level 1 qualification has a basic factual knowledge of subjects, procedures and ideas in order to complete well-defined routine tasks and address simple problems. They are aware of aspects of information relevant to their area of work. They can complete well-defined routine tasks and procedures that require a basic level of cognitive and practical skill and use relevant information to complete tasks. They can identify whether their actions have been effective in the task they have been given.

BHSQ awards the following qualifications at level 1:

 

BHSQ Level 2 (Stage 2) qualifications

A level 2 qualified worker will have knowledge and understanding of facts, procedures and ideas in their field of work, in order to complete well-defined tasks and address straightforward problems. They can interpret relevant information and ideas and are aware of a range of information that is relevant to their area of work. They can complete well-defined generally routine tasks and use relevant practical skills to address straightforward problems. They can identify, gather and use relevant information to inform their actions. They can identify how effective their actions have been in the task they have been given.

BHSQ Level 3 (Stage 3) qualifications

A level 3 qualified worker has factual, procedural and theoretical knowledge and understanding of a subject. They can identify, select and use appropriate cognitive and practical skills, methods and procedures to address problems that are complex and non-routine, although normally well-defined. They can interpret and evaluate information and ideas and they are aware of different perspectives or approaches within their work. They can review how effective methods and actions of been.

BHSQ awards the following qualifications at level 3:

BHSQ Level 4 (Stage 4) qualifications

A level 4 qualified worker has practical, technical or theoretical knowledge and understanding of a subject. They can use their acquired knowledge to address problems that are fairly well defined but complex and non-routine in the workplace. They can identify, adapt and use appropriate cognitive and practical skills to inform their actions and address problems that occur. They can analyse, interpret and evaluate relevant information relating to their field of work. They can use these skills to evaluate their own actions, or actions of others, to make recommendations with regards to the effectiveness of methods and actions. They are also aware of different perspectives or approaches within their field of work. They are likely to be a supervisor or manager within a business.

BHSQ Level 5 coaching qualifications

A level 5 qualified worker has practical, technical or theoretical knowledge and understanding of a subject or field of work. They can use their skills and knowledge to address broadly defined, complex problems and contexts. They can analyse, interpret and evaluate relevant information, concepts and ideas to inform their actions. They can evaluate their methods, actions and results to make recommendations or changes for improvement, if necessary. They are aware of the nature and scope of the area of study or work and can understand different perspectives, approaches or schools of thought and the reasoning behind them .They are likely to be a manager or consultant within a business
